The 3Com NBX phone system needed additional functionality to work with Microsoft Outlook. Metropark developed a windows application that would allow a call coming into an NBX extension to automatically "POP" an outlook contact record. So the name was an easy acronym NBX Outlook Call Pop a.k.a. OCP

Many other features have been built into NBX OCP over the years.
